Kayla is a recent UCLA graduate from Thousand Oaks, California. On campus she was a part of the Social Enterprise Academy and Internship Bootcamps. Kayla graduate Cum Laude from the College Honors Program as a Regents Scholar. She loves tutoring because she benefitted immensely from tutoring as a student and has felt the “a ha!” moment a good tutor can inspire. Even with great teachers sometimes you just need a little individual attention to the exact questions you have and then, BOOM: you got it! Kayla believes she is a good tutor because she is truly not a genius at math. In fact, It has been a struggle to be successful at it. This lack of natural aptitude is her greatest strength however because she understands why students may be confused having probably felt the exact same way before. She has to really understand the fundamental mechanics driving a problem before she can move on. This informs her tutoring: a student can’t just know the ‘how’ but also the ‘why.’ Outside of school she enjoys hiking, boxing, reading history/philosophy, video games, and classic films!
