SOFIA B.
UC Berkeley: First Year, Computer Science Major

Sofia is from San Diego, CA, and is currently a first-year student studying Computer Science at UC Berkeley. At school, Sofia enjoys participating in Cal’s Dance Team, CS Scholars, the Educational Opportunity Program, and her sorority, Kappa. Currently, Sofia interns at CS10: The Beauty and Joy of Computing. In the past, she’s tutored students in math, history, English, and Spanish from all grade levels. She also was a dance instructor, and has taught different dance classes ranging from lyrical and ballet to hip-hop and jazz! Sofia believes that a tutor shouldn’t do a students’ work for them, but rather should act as an aid in the process of learning—she ultimately hopes to move all of her students to a place where they can problem-solve difficult scenarios on their own, without any outside help. She believes that a great tutor knows how to communicate well, has an expert understanding of the material, and most importantly, makes learning fun and something the student looks forward to :)
